What is Reflexology

Reflexology, also known as Reflex Zone Therapy, is a non-invasive complementary therapy based on the theory that different reflex points on the feet and hands correspond with the glands, organs, tissues and systems of the body.

It dates back over 5000 years and was introduced to the western world in the early 20th Century. It is believed that by working on these reflex points it is possible to ease blockages or areas of congestion in the meridian or energy lines that run through the body. Reflexology has the potential to impact on the whole of the body and may help promote its natural healing process restoring vitality and balance. It may also help to relieve stress related disorders. Reflexology is not an alternative to qualified medical treatment and advice.

Reflexology treatment involves the therapist massaging the feet or hands and then working on the various reflex points using specific thumb and finger techniques.

Although reflexology is considered a safe and effective treatment with many positive benefits, your initial treatment will include the completion of a medical consultation form. This information is used to ascertain that no medical condition exists which could be aggravated by the treatment. Treatments are tailored to your individual needs and can last from 30 to 60 minutes. Only your shoes and socks/tights need be removed and normally no oil or lotion is used during the treatment.
